Giving Thanks for Health & Wellness

Giving Thanks for Health & Wellness

Dear Friends:

The holiday season is the time of year when we give thanks for the abundance of blessings in our lives. As we celebrate, we will most likely pause and reflect on those things for which we are truly grateful.

Gratitude, it turns out, can be good for you all year long. According to an article previously published by the Wall Street Journal, “A growing body of research suggests that maintaining an attitude of gratitude can improve psychological, emotional and physical well-being.” In fact, adults who frequently feel grateful are more likely to feel less depressed, exercise more regularly and have greater resistance to viral infections.

The article shares tips for practicing gratitude for a healthier, happier you:

  • Keep a gratitude journal. Don’t just list what you are grateful for; instead, write down a specific act or reason why.

  • Acknowledge those who have touched your life. Self-reflection also helps you think about how you reciprocated, reinforcing humbleness and interdependence.

  • Deliver your thanks in person. Schedule a “gratitude visit” and receive a noticeable lift in spirit.

  • Speak positively. Drop negative or derogatory words, even from self-talk. Look for things to be grateful for, not to criticize.

  • Imagine life without. “Mentally subtract” a positive event you’ve had in your life. What does it feel like? Even small boosts in positive emotions can make life more satisfying.

More than anything, we should all be thankful for our good health and wellness. Keeping mind, body and spirit fit lets us live life to its fullest.
