John first began doing Pilates at the New School University with Pam Pardi. Pam shared with John what she learned in her decades of training with Romana Kryzanowska, Joseph Pilates’ chosen protégé. After the semester ended, John began taking private lessons with Pam and decided to make his love of Pilates into a career. John completed his 800 hour certification through Romana's Pilates at True Pilates New York, the original Pilates certification program. There he studied under Romana’s daughter, Sari Mejia Santo, also a student of Joseph Pilates. He has trained with many master teachers including Cynthia Shipley, Jerome Weinberg, Jamie Trout and Pam Pardi.
Always the athlete, John’s first love in life was hockey. John grew up in the Minneapolis & St. Paul metro area, where he learned to appreciate both arts and sports, especially hockey, which he has played his whole life. A debilitating labral tear prematurely ended his career when playing junior hockey. Today, John continues to play and enjoys other athletic endeavors such as running and skiing. Although John has run half marathons and one full marathon, Pilates is truly the exercise he enjoys the most and practices daily. He loves teaching and his energetic personality shines through in his rhythm and cues.
