For example, limiting foods high in saturated fat and cholesterol can help prevent a stroke. Eating more fruits and vegetables can reduce your risk of cancer. Losing excess weight is always a boost to your overall wellness.

  • Quit smoking. Heart disease, stroke, chronic lower respiratory illness and cancer are all linked to tobacco products. Kick the habit for your health’s sake.

  • Get regular checkups. Form a wellness partnership with your doctor and make an annual visit a recurring event on your calendar.

  • Take precautions with daily activities. Motor vehicle crashes are a leading cause of fatal accidents among men. Wear your seat belt, don’t speed, don’t drive under the influence and pull over if you’re sleepy.

  • Watch your mood. Depression is an important risk factor for men. Consult your health care professional if you have signs or symptoms of depression, such as sadness, unhappiness, or a loss of interest in normal activities.
