Staying Heart Healthy

February is American Heart Month and the American Heart Association suggests the following steps to take good care of your heart:

  • Good Nutrition. A healthy diet is important! The AHA website features heart-friendly recipes that are delicious for you and your whole family.

  • Physical activity. Try to get at least 30 minutes of exercise daily. A short, brisk walk can benefit your circulation, respiration and overall physical well-being, including your heart strength.

  • Manage your weight. You can make major strides toward a healthy body weight by eating well and exercising daily. For example, losing just 10 pounds can help reduce your risk of a heart attack by more than 50%.

  • Reduce stress. Yoga is a great way to work your body and mind and can deliver peaceful moments while increasing flexibility and strength.
